My take on Anthropic shipping the exact AI-for-small-business product founders were racing to build, and what you do Monday when a frontier lab eats your playbook. Companion notes to Human in the Loop Episode 6.

Three months ago on Episode 1, Oscar and I asked whether there was a real business in selling AI to small businesses. This week, Anthropic shipped it themselves. So we just watched the founder playbook get eaten by a frontier lab in ninety days. If you were six weeks into building that company, what do you do Monday? That's the episode.

Here's how I called the week.

Signal or Noise

Anthropic ships Claude for Small Business

When the lab that makes the model also ships the app, the middle gets squeezed. The lesson isn't "give up" — it's build the thing the lab won't: the workflow, the integration, the trust with a specific vertical. Signal.

Thinking Machines previews "Interaction Models"

Full-duplex, real-time interaction is a genuinely different interface. Early, but worth watching. Signal, lightly.

Sierra raises $950M at a $15B+ valuation

Big money into agent platforms. The category is real. Signal.

The Trump administration reverses on AI oversight

Matters for the regulatory backdrop; noise for what you ship Monday.

Cloudflare cuts 1,100 jobs and blames AI

A headline that's part real, part narrative cover. Noise, mostly — "blame AI" is doing a lot of work in that sentence.

No Jargon Required — AI Agents 101

Three terms if you're still catching up:

  1. AI Agent — a model given a goal, tools, and the freedom to take steps toward it. The freedom is where all the value and all the risk live.
  2. Connectors and MCP — the standard way agents plug into your tools and data. If you want an agent to do real work, this is the wiring.
  3. Full-duplex voice — real-time, interruptible voice interaction, not walkie-talkie turn-taking. The interface Thinking Machines is previewing.

The through-line: when a frontier lab ships your product, your moat was never the model — it's the workflow, the vertical, and the trust. Watch or listen below.
